As a guest of the People’s Government of Sichuan we were assigned to help ‘record’ the restoration work carried out following the devastating ‘Wenchuan’ earthquake of 2008.
In November 2011 Guy Woodland visited the quake-battered cities of Deyang and Mianyang, as well as the Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, known for its unique ethnic cultures. The trip was organised through the Chinese Ministry of Culture in partnership with the cultural office of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Sichuan Provincial Government.
Guy’s photographs were later part of a major international exhibition - organised by the Sichuan Provincial Government - which was launched in Beijing in May 2012 by the Vice Governor of Sichuan Province Madam Huang Yanrong. The guest of honour at the event in the National Museum of China in Tiananmen Square was China’s Cultural Minister Wu Cai.
The photographs were also included in a special commemorative book that was launched at the London Book Fair in 2012.
This ongoing photographic project is part of a series of cross cultural programmes being undertaken by Sino Creative Associates to help promote China’s provinces and regions on the world stage.
