Copying items goes way back and was one of the earliest uses of phootgraphy.
One of my first exercises at college using a 4x5" plate camera was to copy a black and white print.
In a professional environment I can not remember how many copies of paintings, drawings, statues and furniture I made when working for Sothebys but it will have run into many thousands.
Flat copies are produced using a copy lens (flat field of view) mounted on a digital camera. The item to be copied is copied in a controlled environment using calibrated lighting and control strips to insure accurate rendition.
This service can be conducted on site or in a studio.
The examples below are from an archive I created of all of the assets from The Royal Liverpool
Golf Clubs history which included paintings, drawings, memorabilia and other objects.
